Meet Afi: The Kale Queen of Volta
From sunrise on the farm to fresh greens in your basket—this is the story of one of our partner farmers.
Somewhere near Ho, Volta Region…
If you’ve ordered fresh kale from Kaya Market, there’s a good chance it came from Afi’s farm.
Afi is a 35-year-old small-scale farmer based in the Volta Region. She’s been growing leafy greens for over 10 years—mostly kale, kontomire (cocoyam leaves), and spring onions. Her mornings start at 5:00 AM, when the air is cool and the dew still kisses the plants.
“I started with just a small patch behind my house,” she says. “But once I saw how people loved the kale, I cleared more land and took it serious.”
Afi
And serious she is. Afi’s kale is lush, crisp, and full of flavor—grown with care, not chemicals. She uses compost made from market scraps and neem spray for pest control. “I don’t like to spray things I wouldn’t feed my own children,” she says.
How We Work With Afi
🥗 Quick Tip from Afi
Want to keep your kale fresh longer?
“Don’t wash it until you’re ready to cook. Wrap it in newspaper and keep it in the fridge—it will last for a week!”
By ordering from Kaya Market, you’re supporting hardworking farmers like Afi—real people growing real food.
